The steps to "taking it to the next level” are unique to each organization and their industry. My advice to every CEO and aspiring-CEO - however - is to hire for innate curiosity and natural agility. How do these pay off? Firstly - curiosity and agility mean people are coach-able. Secondly - innate curiosity makes for a person that is not only deeply knowledgeable about their own area of expertise but is also knowledgeable about their co-workers’ responsibilities and duties. Most importantly, though, they are genuinely curious about our customer’s needs as well as the changes in the marketplace. This curiosity - and the knowledge that comes as a dividend - fuels our agility. It is this collective knowledge - knowledge that stretches beyond team/department/job title - that positions us to have a clearer view of what is coming down the pike, be better partners to our clients and respond in a more timely, effective and impactful manner. When the opportunity presents itself, we’re ready and able to quickly act, evolve and grow the business.
